Evaluation of the analytical instrumentation within the ETH Domain

This project carried out by Susan Meuwly is aimed at compiling a list detailing micro- and nanoscale analytical instrumentation available to industry within the ETH Domain. This database will be directly accessible from the CCMX webpage as a free service to industry and to academia.

This database will compile equipment ranging from easy-to-use devices to sophisticated instruments (commercial or home-built). Access to this instrumentation is rather simple and uncomplicated for projects/services within the institutions themselves but can be extremely puzzling for industry. This project aims at solving the lack of information about existing instruments that are available within the ETH Domain and their appropriate application to industrial problems.

The forthcoming database will include for each available analytical instrument at least the following information:

  • Location of the analytical instrument / method
  • Short description of the offered services and of the most usual experimental questions which can be solved with the equipment
  • Institution, contact person, webpage
  • Description of possible measurement service packages (from "rent-an-instrument" to "all-inclusive"), typical measurement duration and costs.

A preliminary version of the database is scheduled/planned to be available by April 2009. The complete database will be finalised by end of 2009.
