Call for proposals
CCMX encourages world-class research and education in materials and their applications. By funding collaborative projects between academic and industrial partners, it emphasises scientific and technological exchange on targeted priority themes.
Call for Proposals - July 2010
Research Ticket Programme -
Public-private Partnership (PPP) projects funded through CCMX
In the funding period 2008-2011 CCMX has focused on public-private partnership (PPP) projects. These are pre-competitive research projects where several industrial partners come together to partially fund research projects carried out by several researchers from different institutions in the ETH Domain and CSEM. The industrial contribution is matched by twice the amount by CCMX.
CCMX is launching a call for proposals according to this model on 15 July 2010, which will be the final one in the period 2008-2011. Such PPP projects should be in one of the areas covered by the Education and Research Units (ERUs) – namely Metallurgy (MERU); Particles, Coatings and Particles Engineering (SPERU) or Materials for the Life Sciences (MatLife).
MERU
1. Neo-metallurgy : New alloys, new processes and new investigation techniques
2. Multi-scale, multi-phenomena modelling of metallic systems
MatLife
1. Engineered Biomaterials – Tissue interfaces and Medical Implants & Device
2. Anti-microbial and Anti-inflammatory Materials & Surfaces, and Monitoring Technologies
3. Biosensing Technologies, Diagnostics & Drug Screening Platforms, and Novel (Stem) Cell Culture Substrates
4. Drug Delivery Systems and Biomedical Imaging Materials
5. Nanomaterials and Safety Aspects
SPERU
1. Tunable mechanical and surface properties of engineered materials
2. Functional coatings for novel devices
If you would like to submit a proposal to CCMX, the research areas must be supported by industrial funds and a Letter of Intent from interested companies shall be submitted with the outline project proposal. The ERU Directors will provide you with the "Letter of Intent" template that may be used by your industrial contacts.
MERU: Prof. Michel Rappaz (Phone 021 693 2844)
SPERU: Prof. Heinrich Hofmann (Phone 021 693 3607)
MatLife: Dr. Katharina Maniura (Phone 071 274 7447)
Projects under the CCMX Analytical Platform
Projects under the Analytical Platform are funded on a project-by-project basis, without the research ticket principal. However, the applicants must provide matching funds from their home-institution and industrial partner(s) (minimum 50% of the total budget amount, cash and/or in-kind).
CCMX is launching a call for proposals for its Analytical Platform on 15 July 2010, which will be the final one in the period 2008-2011, and two categories of projects will be funded:
Proposals of Type 1 consider the development of new analytical instrumentation or methods for the investigation of physical, chemical, or biological properties on the nanoscale in controlled atmosphere, vacuum, liquids, magnetic fields at variable temperatures or in combination with other characterization methods.
Proposals of Type 2 consider the exploitation of existing analytical techniques for nanoscale analysis in new fields of applications.
These research projects should be carried out by researchers from at least two CCMX founding institutions (EPFL, ETHZ, Empa, PSI, and CSEM).
If you would like to submit a proposal to CCMX in the framework of the Analytical Platform, the project must be supported by industrial funds and a letter of intent from interested company(ies) shall be submitted with the outline project proposal.
If you have industrial contacts who are interested in supporting research, the Analytical Platform Director will provide you with the "Letter of Intent" template upon request.
