Funding of projects

CCMX has launched a new initiative whereby industry has the opportunity to participate in pre-competitive research by “Thematic Area” via the CCMX Research Ticket Programme.

The Research Ticket Programme has been established as the mechanism to implement a new collaborative, pre-competitive research model.  This forward thinking model is applied across all Education & Research Units (ERUs).  The CCMX Research Ticket Programme focuses on generic long-term research of interest to all member companies and research labs of the ETH domain and of CSEM.

Companies purchase a research ticket in a chosen thematic area. One ticket costs CHF 75’000 per year, with a three year commitment required. Each ticket sold receives matching funds from CCMX (CHF 75’000 per year).

The creation of new thematic areas is an on-going process which can be initiated by CCMX or by industry. Thematic areas are selected through brainstorm sessions that cover specific chosen fields. These sessions are attended by interested companies positioned along the value chain and by identified researchers with competencies in the field. The main goal of these sessions is to identify the industry’s recurrent needs and the solutions that researchers can bring.

Once a new thematic area has been identified it is proposed to industry for its commitment (purchase of tickets) before a Call for Proposals is launched. Researchers from the ETH Domain institutions and from CSEM may submit proposals within this call. Once projects have been approved for funding, they are included in their specific thematic research area and are thus funded jointly by the industry and CCMX.
